RAJULA, born 1974, is a Visual Artist, Poet and Filmmaker. After a brief stint with painting at the Baroda Art school followed by a Masters in English Literature, she studied film making at FTII, Pune (1997-2000), specializing in Film Direction. Her film practice emerges from an intense dialogue with the various arts, schools of thought and philosophies through a close collaboration with people, their work and contexts. Working in film & video she has been exploring the boundaries of fiction/documentary, photography, video essay, sound & digital art. She produces & directs films; develops scripts in collaboration with fellow artists, tribal, folk artisans, especially those who live/work in the interstice of practice and performance.

Her films have been screened widely. Among the significant ones are Horizons Prize at Dokfest Munich Germany for Word within the word; John Abraham National Award for the Best Experimental film in 2013 for ReTold by Loknath & Best Experimetal film: fiction for the short Jumbled Cans, 2014.
The manuscript of her poetry collection Parchhain ki Khirki se was awarded and published by Gyanpeeth for New Writing. She also writes on cinema & has edited and published a selection from Vincent Van Gogh’s letters into Hindi as Mujh par Bharosa Rakhna from Seasongray.
She has been on the Jury for National Film Awards, on panels for seminars, talks and conferences for Cinema, Fine Arts and Social Media. For over a decade, she coaches young scriptwriters and film directors in various film & media schools including Film & Television Institute of India, Pune. Also designs new courses in Interdependent Cinema, New Media, Film Criticism et al.
